Backyard Baby

Today the semi stray terrier that has been roaming our backyard decided to bring her puppy. It is a sweet little thing, although he could do with some grooming.
Mr Mustard was not happy to share the attention.

Driving

Had to drive myself today to work using the mother-in-law's SUV with the shift stick up on the dash board, behind the wheel. It all had a very 50's feel to it.

Cousin Sara!!

The 2009 Swedish televised Christmas Calendar is going to star Sara Edwardsson as Supersnälla Silversara. Awesome!
It won't top Allram Eest's macical performance a couple of years ago, but still.

In The Year 199X...

The Fist of Lingering Regret and Certain Death!
Pretty much the coolest name of an episode ever!

Anime Forever

Now it is time to watch Fist of the North Star online.

Spud Gun

Whipped up a spectacular bash of potato buns last night. It takes about three hours to make so I was well pleased when they came out alright - not like last week when I had the splendid idea of boiling the little suckers instead of frying them. Needless to say, mashed potato doesn't boil well - and a whole weeks supply of potato was made in to soup...

The Cat In The Sink

Here are some pics of what happens when you have a water-crazy cat who feel he needs to cool down.

Running Buddy

Got this watch a while ago. I now use it every time I go running. Yep, Faló and I make a grand running team.

Winchester

The time to go home for the weekend is creeping closer with every long minute. In a wicked pub-mood, you know - two pints of lager and a packet of crisps.

Old News

Since my trusted ride to work quit last week I have found a new one and I am now coming in to work way too early, and there is absolutely nothing to do. No one is calling the work phone and the cool Pop Culture sites I use to keep myself in the know hasn't been updated from the day before. What's left then is European media (Irish, British, Swedish) The sad thing is that they are already one day behind in reporting the stuff I have already read about (except for The Sun).
It is not easy being at the forefront of what's happening.

Run Matt, Run

Thanks to my new super-shoes I am now back at the old 6 mile track in the mornings. I will need a couple of more mornings to get the time down to an hour again, but still!

Autumn

It is getting chilly in Chucktown. Low 70's, still not cool enough for a jacket, though.

Friends of Bill

Just found this little snippet online. It is a guide to Windows 95 from back in the day. It is hosted by Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston. One of the funny things with the video is that someone thought they needed a funky bass riff after every joke, as to emphasise that it is supposed to be funny...

Fruity

Apparently there has been an outcry to ban MAOAM's new candy wrappers in the UK. This is because there are claims that the fruits on said wrappers are a bit to "sexy".

You be the judge:

Sleepy Hollow

Thursday night is my weekly Festivus when it comes to telly. It is also of course the one night of the week when I am unexplainable tired. Last night I fell asleep right after dinner, at 7 o'clock. I kept waking up to watch the first ten minutes of all all the cool shows I had planned to see.
Some of the stuff I zombied through:

I blame all the delicious food I keep making...

Because it couldn't be old age...

Funny Ad II

Here is the family's (well, my) favourite commercial at the moment. GEICO gets it right again!

Building A Home

Some "up to date" pictures from The Eriksons:

Me assembling the new IKEA bookshelf

Mr. Mustard Helping out in his own way

Generic IKEA "Kolasnören"

Mr. striking a pose in front of the new furniture

Funny Ad

Here is a funny commercial Radio Shack is using while they are trying to re-brand themselves as "The Shack". It is funny because it is foreign...

Of Course...

...Because nothing say "reliable rabies clinic" like a home made sign.

...Because who if not the Mob deserve their own entrance.

Pancakes Sans Syrup

Made a minor alteration in the planned and approved week menu and made a batch of American Pancakes (was supposed to make Swedish ones) to last us the rest of the week. Only when I was done did I remember that the wife refuses to eat "Americans" without maple syrup, something there's a distinct lack of...
I am gonna be hearing that when Honey comes home!!

Mustard & Water

Mr. Mustard having a drink/shower. You don't see that every day. Well - I do, but I bet you don't.

Running Again

Today I decided to go to Shoe Carnival and get some new trainers. Found these no-brand ones. I have already tried them out, and apart from being a little snug on the left heal they are A-All Right.

Dry Martinique

We finally got a new TV!!

And just in time for the premiere of the third season of Mad Men...

Teenage Wasteland

It is raining outside and some strange clouds are blocking the sun giving everything a yellowish tone. Sounds weird, but it's true. It is like living in a CSI: Miami episode.

One With Nature

Just did some late night laundry, and had a cockroach run between my feet while I was out there. You see the little buggers almost every day so you're more or less used to them - but they are still pretty disgusting.
Here are some other weirdos I found chilling on the deck earlier today:

Only in Charleston

Only in Charleston will you see bumper stickers trying to spell out "Game Cock" phonetically - and actually having it spell out "gam-kak". Trust me Hillbillies, that is not how you use the letter Ä
Only in Charleston will you see this religious rambling posted at the parts drop department of MUSC. If you are already working for the Devil - do you really care about surveillance cameras?

More Drew for You

Saw Grey Gardens the other day. it was awesome and I recommend everybody to check it out. Drew Barrymore is her spunky self and that's always a selling point. A bit of a heads up: There is a Baldwin brother in it, but I think it is the one that actually knows how to act, and he is not in it long enough to ruin it.

Where is my mind?

Maybe I am a bit slower than everybody else, but I just realized today that Kim Deal, from The Pixies, is also the singer in The Breeders.
If you don't know The Breeders, check 'em out here. I am sure you have all heard Cannonball sometime without knowing who sings it.

Foxy Stoat Seeks Pig

Rik Mayall. You can't help but to idolize anyone who gets arrested for taking home a prop gun only to point it at some American tourists and shout "Do you want some of this, Motherf**ker?"
(Saw him live in Birmingham once, Bloody Marvelous!)

Him: Yeah, especially good music.
Me: -?

Am I in a Kevin Smith movie?

If You Want to Confuse a Yank...

... All you've got to do is use the old junkie expression "Yes Box. All right".
It works every time, their eyes will start to flicker and a muddled look comes across their face as they try to make sense of what the hell you just said.

More Pearls of Experience

"I have met lovages that have stared me right in the eye"
-Ernst Kirchsteiger
Lovages and Ernst - Deadly Enemies (nice arm shelf)

Tattoo trouble

Tonight is a new episode of L.A Ink, which rocks!
Since it's never a bad idea to laugh at others - Here are some examples of tattoos that could have done with a second check before made permanent:

A good example of what happens when you try too hard to be deep and at the same time never finished elementary school - it ends in "tradgedy".

Why would a beer can say "pizza"?

The Chain

Listening to Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and thinking of jobs I will apply to when I get home. Can't use the company laptop - Big Brother would not like that at all...

Scania Jazz

Last night on the Colbert Report the Swedish band Movits performed their song "Fel del av gården". I like what I heard. It is very much like a mix of Teddybears STHLM and Madness.
I have no idea why the dress like Lasse Kroner, but I am interested in seeing what they will do next

Check it out on Colbert Nation, or on ilike.

Today's Words of Wisdom

"You'll never feel as rich as when you take some fresh bread out of the oven"
- Ernst Kirchsteiger

Baker Street

Since the Wife is working the odd shift that she is and I spend a lot of time on my lonesome at night I have found myself baking a whole lot more. That is a good thing though, you can never have too much bread.

Here's what's on the menu at Chez Eríksòn tonight:

Oven baked bacon pancake with scones on the side. Mind you - that is the second batch of scones I made today, one for breakfast, one for dinner.

Matt's Back

The Daily Matt hasn't been as daily as we all wish lately. The reason for this is simply that the wife had the whole weekend off (a thing that rarely happens anymore) and since we barely see each other during the week we decided to have the most chillaxing weekend ever and don't really do anything.
Here are some things we did managed to do though:
  • See the new Harry Potter. It was good although I will never be as exited about these films as the wife is.
  • Spend hours and hours watching Nickelodeon. It was the "SpongeBob Sponge Bash" in honor of SquarePants' 10 year anniversary.
  • Go to dinner with her grandfather that was up from Florida. Free visit to Carrabas. Sweet!

Friday, July 17, 2009

Bicycle Beer

Today's beer tip: Fat Tire by New Belgium Brewery. It has been around for a while, but still worth a mentioning.
Other things that's "on" right now:
  • Listening to The Dead Weather's (Jack White's new band) debut album online.
  • Pretty Green, Liam Gallagher's line of clothing. Awesome clothes - expensive as f**k, though.

Still Awake

Was still feeling dodgy this morning, so I chose to start the day with some self medication.
Phenergan - hell of a drug! The good thing is that it is somewhat effective on nausea, the bad thing is that it is also used as a sleep aid...

Led Belly

I think I am finally getting better from having a wonky stomach bug or something. Whatever it is, it seem to be digressing, now I only feel noxious a couple of hours in the morning. I have probably the most girlie-like stomach of all I know, for one thing it can turn itself inside-out just by the sight of sesame seeds. Beat that!

Duly Noted

Here is a list of people who's birthday is June 4th:

  • Russell Brand, British comedian
  • Freddy Fender, American musician
  • Rebecca Dana, American mother-in-law
  • Angelina Jolie, American actress
  • Bar Refaeli, Israeli model

I have been informed that I neglected to mention one or several persons from this list on my blog on their birthday. I would therefore like to let everybody know that these guys all had their birthday on said date, almost a month ago (well, not Freddy Fender. He is dead).

Are we happy now?

More from the Fourth

Here are some more extravagant pics from what I like to call Independence Day.

The obligatory USA Eagles Mascot

Action pics from the game

A guy dressed up a pasty flabby Mexican wrestler?

Chilling under the bleachers after the wife got a heatstroke

What else is a Swedish husband for?

Just finished whipping up some homemade meatballs for the wife and myself. She hasn't gotten off work yet, but what's better than coming home to a fresh batch of Swedish meatballs? Together with the potato sallad I made the other night it's "2 Die 4".

Down with the Clown!

For years now I have proclaimed the hidden danger and not-so-hidden scariness of clowns. Ever since Manne the Clown came to our school and frightened us as children I am convinced I can see through their evil scheme.
In a perfect world there would be a international ban on these abusers of humour, and their friends "the mimes" would also have to be gotten rid off in the name of good taste and for the well being of youths everywhere.

Found this pic on awkwardfamilyphotos.com
It is a really funny site

Happy Birthday America

Yesterday was of course 4th of July, so the wife and myself decided to give the old U S and A a proper birthday bash:

It started with a breakfast of champions

Then we went to a Freedom themed BBQ at our very good friend Allen's

After that it was time for the USA-Canada Rugby game

It seemed like the spirit of over 200 years of freedom brought out the best in folks

Now I have just made a batch of potato salad so we're off to Ma's for some delayed Freedom Burgers. More pics to follow.

Time to split

So it is already July. That's whack!
Just about to round off a surprisingly productive day full of mediocre work assignments. Public Enemies opens today, hopefully The Spouse and myself can kill a couple of hours this weekend watching Depp's Dillinger taunt Blaspheming Bale.

Almost...

Not long now before I am calling it the weekend. In a wicked Tallboy and Sun Chips kind of mood. Sounds like a plan.

Kalle Dussin

Watching Kvarteret Skatan online.
Come Sunday it is the 300 year anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. I tried to get the wife exited about that last night - it didn't really work... So we went and saw Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. It was awesome!

No roses at M.U.S.C.

Starting to get my sense of smell back since the cold is on its last leg. Too bad hospitals smell like... hospitals.

Welcome To The Jungle

Just Black Flagged the shit out of another poisonous spider. He was a big one, with markings and all - taught him not to step on my turf.

Bruce Campbell fest, anyone?

It is half past eight and still above 90 degrees out. The wife has gone to Mississippi over the day and will be back tomorrow, so I am going to spend the night with a Daim bar and Netflix's range of online films.

No Kubb?

Had a great Midsummer's Eve last night. I showed the Yanks how to do it Northern style. I whipped up a summery evening consisting of steaks, an awesome potato salad (full of herbs and french mustard) and Matt's homemade apple pie. Below is me mixing it up!

When we came home from the mother in law's last night after the dinner we found a poisonous(!) spider in the kitchen, he was fecking huge. As the daily temperature now hit the 100's I am starting to see loads of weird creatures, and especially bugs, that I have never seen before. I am just going to assume they are all lethal and stay away from them.

Tigermilk

I've got the sniffles and it is sort of hazy-but-really-hot out. Somehow the two factors combined gets me in a Belle & Sebastian mood. Sometimes all you need is some Glaswegian Indie pop.

Norris does it again

This is pretty much the coolest clip ever. A girl with Downs Syndrome get saved by Walker, Texas Ranger from Gary Busey.
I just want to be clear - The humour does not lie in the girl's condition, but the marvelous fight and high number of round house kicks that Chuck manages to squeeze into the small time frame.

Salinger loves Bale

Today the thunderstorm began at 6 am, so it was over by 9 - which was cool. I am getting proper sick though, walking around with a snot rag in hand all over campus.
This article about J.D. Salinger raving about the new Terminator film is hilarious.

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Mardy Bum

Listening to Arctic Monkeys on the Ipod and brazing myself for a day full of me sweating through my shirt and the getting soaked in the token three o'clock thunder storm. I think I am getting a cold, so I have been holding off on the workouts, and since my feet started to look like the ones of Joseph Merrick I haven't gone for a run in a week. Not good, but in my defense I am trying to keep myself healthy and able to walk for Midsummer's Eve.

Matt the Mover

Me and the wife are supposed to help her sister move during the weekend. I told the sister-in-law I would be happy to do it if she would put up the traditional free pizza and beer. This means that I shan't go hungry nor sober all weekend. Fabulous!

I once had a frog...

Just found Smala Sussie (or Slim Susie as it is called over here) on Netflix. I am gonna try to persuade the spouse and sister in law to watch it with me. I have got a burned copy at home, but that one lacks subtitles and I can only watch it on the laptop, which apparently isn't good enough...
